Itinerary
- The meeting point of this food tour is by the church of Santa Maria Regina Pacis. Your guide will meet you with the sign of our company name on the sidewalk by the entrance of the church in via Barrili 76-78.
- We'll start with a typical Roman breakfast with cappuccino and maritozzo. Have you ever heard of it before? You won't forget it after this tour ;)
This pastry shop is being run from the same family since three generations! - We'll then walk to the local market, only frequented by locals. This is where you'll learn all the unwritten rules of how the Romans choose their fresh fruits and vegetables every day.
Here we'll taste the freshness of the Roman countryside (after eating lots of pizza and pasta during your Italy trip, you'll appreciate some fresh fruits!). - After the market, we'll head to the local deli. This deli is today ran by two brothers who are continuing the family business their father and uncle started in the 1960s.
The brother will prepare for us a special selection of hams and cheese from the Roman countryside, together with a glass of wine.
Here you'll also learn about the ingredients that are part of the most popular Roman dishes, such as carbonara and amatriciana. - Next we'll go to the local bakery. This bakery is so local that it doesn't even have a sign outside!
But here you'll always find a queue of locals buying their bread.
This bakery is run by Alessia, who continued the business her grandpa started here after WW2 ended. Since then, the bakery hasn't changed a thing.
In this bakery you'll taste a must-try of the Roman street food: pizza rossa!
This is not the pizza you'll find in the restaurants, but the pizza from the bakery, that kids bring to school for their lunch breaks.
And adults like to eat while walking to their errands, or for a quick break in the morning. A pizza that most tourists tend to overlook, but that is so worth trying! - Last but not least, gelato! You'll taste our favorite gelato and you'll learn how to recognize the signs of a good gelato on your own, even after this tour. You'll also get to see the laboratory where gelato is made.
